Why we’re rebranding

Let’s get right to it. Unfortunately, I can’t say much about this. But what I can say is “that we had a trademark infringement issue with a company.” It was a shock but fortunately, we were able to come to a resolution and move past it relatively unscathed.
However, as you’ll learn below, our story is evolving.

The beginning

In 2015, when Medium announced it was releasing Publications — then called “Collections” — I created one and named it, Entrepreneur’s Handbook (or EH for short).
The mission was simple: to help entrepreneurs succeed.
Growth started off slow. But being a first arrival to a new platform is an advantage. Entrepreneur’s Handbook grew as Medium grew. And I was thrilled to begin publishing other writers in the publication. Two legendary Medium writers
Amardeep Parmar
and
Stephen Moore

joined me as editors to help scale the brand. Together, we launched a podcast, community events, ebooks, and newsletters.Today

In 2023, we published 500 stories from hundreds of talented writers. A huge shoutout to our regular contributors this year, including
Aaron Dinin, PhD
,
DC Palter
,
Rachel Greenberg
,
Jodie Cook
,
Joseph Mavericks
,
AL Anany
,
Boris Manhart
,
Arthur Hayes
,
Tim Denning
,
Nir Zicherman
,
Joe Procopio
,
Jan Cavelle
,
Pete Sena
,
Daniel Rizea
, and many more.I must give a very special shoutout to
Amardeep Parmar
, who created over 96 podcast episodes for EH, interviewing some of the world’s leading entrepreneurs and investors, including
Ev Williams
(Twitter/Medium),
Marc Randolph
(Netflix),
Nathan Barry
(ConvertKit),
Sarah A. Downey
(Accomplice VC),
Justin Welsh
,
Alexis Grant
(They Got Acquired),
Sandhya Hegde
(Unusual Ventures),
Tyler Denk
(beehiiv), and more. I can’t thank Amar enough — the EH voice wouldn’t be what it is today without the impact he made on it. More on our podcast below.Today, Entrepreneur’s Handbook is one of Medium’s largest active publications with over 228k followers, millions of readers, and hundreds of amazing contributing writers.
So that’s how we got here. Let’s talk about the rebrand and what’s changing, not changing, and coming soon.

EH Rebrand “Nuts & Bolts”

What’s changing (sort of)

  • Our name. Entrepreneur’s Handbook will now be called Entrepreneurship Handbook. We will still go by EH and our social handles remain the same (entrehandbook).
  • Our domain. Our domain is now ehandbook.com (formerly entrepreneurshandbook.co, which will permanently redirect). Fortunately, Medium makes it super easy to implement a new custom domain. Writers, rest assured, all article links in EH will automatically update to the new domain, so there will be no dead links on the web. All in all, the new domain is shorter, easier to spell, and a dotcom — not all that bad if you ask me.
  • Our brand identity. Our logo remains almost the same with only a slight tweak to the top word (entrepreneur’s 👉 entrepreneurship). I’m slightly sad to lose the more personal term for a more categorical term, but it’s very slight, and the emphasis on “handbook” remains unchanged. Our brand colors are adopting a shade of color (very dark green and very light gray) so that the primary colors aren’t black and white.

New brand

  • Contact information. We’re updating our email from entrepreneurshandbookco@gmail.com to the shiny new email: editors@ehandbook.com.

What’s not changing

  • Our mission. We will continue to be dedicated to helping entrepreneurs succeed and we will continue achieving this by publishing inspirational stories with practical takeaways.
  • Our editorial focus. Since day one, we’ve always aimed to maintain a high standard of editorial quality, even if it means publishing stories less often. We will continue to publish original first-person narratives told from experience based in honesty and vulnerability, whether they are successes or failures, and accompanied by helpful lessons for readers to apply to their own entrepreneurial journeys.
  • Our commitment to Medium. Over the years our home on Medium has sometimes felt like riding a rollercoaster with both arms up in the air, but we’re still here and we’re happy with where Medium is headed and have enjoyed the partnership with
  • Tony Stubblebine
  • ,
  • Scott Lamb
  • , and the Medium team. Medium has always been our home and will continue to be going forward. The team, platform, and community have been good to us and we see no reason to leave.

What’s ahead

  • Boosting good stories. Stephen and I are both now contracted in Medium’s Boost Nominator Pilot program so we will be spending the year hunting for top-quality stories in entrepreneurship and startups, both on and off Medium. The best way to get your story considered for boosting is to submit it to our publication. Or DM me on Twitter.
  • Discovering new writers. We seek interesting entrepreneurial stories. If we notice an entrepreneur, we will reach out and ask you if you’re interested in bringing your story over to Medium via EH. We will work with you to get set up on Medium, and help you tell your story in a way that we know works well on Medium.
  • Growing our newsletter. We launched the EH weekly newsletter on beehiiv earlier this year. We feature a story of the week (from Medium), deep-dive reporting on a founder, trend, or company, and top tweets and commentary on current startup news. Sign up over at mail.ehandbook.com.
  • Experiments. We have a few ideas for this year: (A) create a self-serve database for startup stories, (B) create video content, such as a course, (C) build out our community on Superwave and host writer award events again — always open to feedback or ideas.
  • Pausing the podcast. Amar is taking a break from running the EH Podcast as his own ventures are gaining more traction. If anyone is interested in becoming an interim podcast host, shoot me a note at dave@ ehandbook.com.

Final thought — why we exist

The world of entrepreneurship remains novel. The path to success is never copied and repeated. For every company, it’s unique and unpredictable. Success defies playbooks. The next generation of entrepreneurs is navigating this journey right now in 2024. The world continues to change, but a fact remains: the power of Stories to educate. EH exists to amplify helpful narratives and connect entrepreneurs with the Medium community. While we can’t guarantee success, we can offer a guiding light and a reliable handbook for you and your own business venture.
Keep pushing forward. We’ll do the same.
Thanks for reading.
All the best,
Dave
