The Karabakh Horse

The Karabakh horse is a breed of mountain-riding horse that was created in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and is widespread. In the 17th-18th centuries, this horse breed was further improved in the Karabakh Khanate. Karabakh horses are considered the oldest horse breed in Asia and the Caucasus. Currently, it is the national horse breed in the Republic of Azerbaijan.[1] The main distribution area of the Karabakh horse was the Karabakh zone of Azerbaijan. The best horses are found in Shusha, Aghdam and areas close to these regions. Horses of this breed were taken to the North Caucasus, the Don and many stud farms located in the south of Russia. Currently, Karabakh horses occupy a special place among the famous horse breeds such as "Arab", "Don", "Budyonni". The Karabakh horse is distinguished by its high running speed. The record speed was recorded by a horse named "Sumganda" bred at Aghdam Equestrian Plant by running 1600 meters in 1 minute 54 seconds (50.52 km/h), and 2400 meters in 2 minutes 52 seconds (50.24 km/h).[2] This is about 20 km/h less than the world record (70.76 km/h).[3] The usual pace of a horse is more than 8 kilometers per hour
