Manchester United are ready to pursue a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes if they offload Casemiro this summer, a report has claimed.
The veteran Brazilian has endured a tricky time at Old Trafford since he joined in a £70m deal from Real Madrid in 2022 and, with two years left on his expensive contract, is expected to be made available for transfer this summer.
Casemiro has interest from the Saudi Pro League and 90min understands he could be sold for the right price as United seek to build up a transfer budget worth around £170m.
According to Sport, United will move for a new midfielder if Casemiro departs and the Red Devils have set their sights on fellow Brazilian Gomes.
Gomes, 23, joined Wolves from Flamengo in January 2023 and has quickly established himself as a key player for Gary O'Neil's side. His impressive performances earned him a first cap for Brazil against England at the weekend.

United are said to be readying a bid of around £35m for Gomes, whose Wolves contract runs until 2028 and also includes an option for an extra 12 months.
The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo at the base of United's midfield has helped open the door to a departure for Casemiro, who has struggled for both fitness and form this season.
"It's not easy, there's a lot of pressure," Casemiro said of Mainoo recently. "But I think United will have a top player for the next years, easily. He's a top player. He's exceptional. He's a humble, hard-working player. He knows how to listen. He's a great player.
"Since I play alongside him, I know Manchester United will have one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the next years, easily.
"I think we have to recognise his value. He's a great kid. I'm very happy that he's on our side. As long as he keeps his head on straight, just as he's doing now, I think we'll have a great player for many, many years here at United."

Erling Haaland will use Manchester City's upcoming Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid to 'show his credentials for a future move', according to reports in Spain.
The striker signed for City in 2022 but has long been linked with a move to the Spanish capital either side of his 2022 transfer to the Etihad Stadium.
For a third-season running - a second while Haaland's been at the club - City have been drawn against Madrid in the Champions League knockout stages.
AS report Haaland wants to use these upcoming games to prove his worth to Madrid, who are attempting to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Haaland is said to have been left dismayed by Los Blancos' pursuit of Mbappe, believing there was a chance they could have tried to sign him instead due to a release clause in his contract.
City beat Madrid 5-1 on aggregate in last year's semi-finals, but Haaland notably did not score any of his side's goals. Kevin De Bruyne grabbed the visitors' equaliser in a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu before a brace from Bernardo Silva plus goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez saw City to a 4-0 win at the Etihad.
While Haaland is believed to dream of playing for Madrid, City are working hard to extend his contract with his current deal up in 2027. However, his agent - Rafaela Pimenta - wants to retain the release clause which would allow him to join Madrid for a set fee in future.
Madrid are open to having both Mbappe and Haaland on the same team, but recognise it would take a mighty financial effort to accommodate the pair.

Barcelona winger Raphinha is frustrated with life at the club, a report has claimed, but is determined to stay at Camp Nou this summer.
Raphinha has been heavily linked with a move away from Barcelona as the club seek to raise money, with both the Premier League and Saudi Arabia touted as potential landing spots for the 27-year-old.
According to Sport, these constant links away from Barcelona have left Raphinha feeling frustrated, not least because he knows there is an element of truth to the matter.
Raphinha is said to believe that he does not have the full support of the fans, the club's board or the Spanish press, going as far as to feel as though he has never been backed ever since his expensive move to the club in the summer of 2022.
Despite being made available for sale, Raphinha is adamant he still has a future at Barcelona and is not prepared to actively search out a new club.

Raphinha has not been a regular starter under Xavi this season and has completed 90 minutes just twice in La Liga, and it is for that reason that those in charge at Barcelona are keen to cash in on their valuable asset.
Barcelona are asking for over €80m (£69m) to part ways with Raphinha but they are not expected to receive that level of interest from the Premier League, where Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the former Leeds United winger.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are expected to bid for Raphinha but, as it stands, the Brazil international has no desire to leave either Barcelona or Europe.
