Matt Damon Says He Appeared in Crypto.com Ad to Support Clean Water Foundation
Hey Peeps!
On March 27th, in an interview with the Associated Press, Matt Damon stated that he appeared in the now infamous Crypto.com Super Bowl commercial due to a “down year in water.org” and was an “attempt to raise money for water.org”.
The star actor is claiming the main reason for supporting the cryptocurrency industry and doing the commercial was to get financial support for his charity, water.org.
However, Damon did go on to praise the crypto exchange for making a $1 million donation to water.org to support the charity as a gesture of goodwill and belief in the foundation’s goals.
“I gave my whole salary to water.org because we were down, and Crypto.com heard about that, and they gave $1 million to water.org completely on their own. I definitely have a lot of gratitude to them for what they did for our foundation.”

Here is the infamous “Fortune Favors The Bold” 2021 Crypto.com advertisement starring Matt Damon.
Crypto.com had two commercials air during the 2022 Super Bowl, the other starring LeBron James.
The sheer amount of crypto commercials that aired by various companies led this Super Bowl to be dubbed the “Crypto Bowl”.
However, Matt Damon’s commercial was the most criticized by the media for comparing crypto investors to astronauts, mountain climbers, and famous pioneers of aviation.
To show how heavily criticized Matt Damon was for appearing in a cryptocurrency advertisement, look no further than these two comedy videos created by Stephen Colbert, for his late night talk show, and the animated comedy show, South Park.
Back in October 2021, Damon confirmed to Bloomberg that he was an investor in Crypto.com and he was “hoping this is the beginning of a great long-term collaboration”.
It seems that Matt Damon was all set to the be the face of Crypto.com, and start a wave of celebrity endorsements for crypto companies, until the crypto winter set in.
2022 had a different plan for the crypto industry as most companies either laid off staff or collapsed all together.
It also remains to be seen whether or not Matt Damon is still an investor in the Singapore-based crypto exchange.
