What would happen if aliens conquered us? This is a question that many of us have asked ourselves at some time, especially after watching so many science fiction movies and series that explore this scenario. But is it really possible that there are beings from other worlds and that they intend to invade us? In my previous article "UFOs On Capitol Hill: The Debate That Shakes America" I told you how the US government has recognized the existence of unidentified flying objects and has opened an investigation into it. Is this a sign that we are facing an imminent contact or a strategy to distract us from other more serious problems?
Imagine for a moment that one day you woke up to find that the sky is full of spaceships of unknown origin. How would we react? What would our leaders do? What would the visitors want? The United States Congress has taken the issue of UFOs seriously and has requested a report from the Pentagon. Does this mean that they know something that we do not know or that they are trying to manipulate us? Is this proof that there is life? beyond Earth or a smoke screen to hide other more important matters?
The history of humanity is full of examples of conquests, invasions and colonizations that have resulted in the destruction or submission of native civilizations by the discoverers. An emblematic case is that of the conquest of America by the Europeans, which caused the death of millions of indigenous people due to wars, diseases and exploitation. What would happen if something similar happened with aliens? What consequences would contact with a more advanced and powerful alien civilization have for humanity?
There are several possible scenarios for an alien invasion scenario, depending on the intentions, abilities, and morality of the visitors. Some are more optimistic and some are more pessimistic, but all pose challenges and dilemmas for our species.
β Optimistic hypothesis # 1 - Aliens visit us for peaceful and benevolent purposes, seeking to establish communication, exchange and mutual cooperation. In this case, we could benefit from their knowledge, their technology and their culture, as well as share ours. We could learn from his achievements and his mistakes, as well as his vision of the universe and of life. We could broaden our perspective and awareness, as well as solve some of our global problems. However, we would also have to face some risks and challenges, such as culture shock, fear of the unknown, the risk of contagion or the danger of losing our identity and independence.
β Optimistic hypothesis # 2 - Aliens visit us for scientific and curious purposes, trying to study our planet, our biodiversity and our civilization. In this case, we could be the object of observation, experimentation and analysis by aliens, who could try to understand our nature and behavior. We might have the opportunity to establish some kind of contact or dialogue with them, or at least try to let them know that we are intelligent and sentient beings. However, we would also have to deal with some threats and difficulties, such as the respect for our privacy, our dignity and our rights, the risk of being manipulated or deceived, or the danger of being considered inferior or irrelevant.
β Pessimistic hypothesis # 1 - Aliens visit us for hostile and aggressive purposes, seeking to conquer our planet, exploit our resources or exterminate our species. In this case, we would have to face an unequal and relentless war against a superior enemy in all respects. We would have to fight for our survival, our freedom and our dignity, using all the weapons and strategies at our disposal. We could try to resist, negotiate or escape, but with little chance of success. However, we could also try to find some weakness or vulnerability in the invaders, or to ally ourselves with other possible enemies or competitors of the same.
β Pessimistic hypothesis # 2 - Aliens visit us for indifferent and disinterested purposes, ignoring our existence or considering us insignificant. In this case, we could be collateral victims of their actions, which could alter our ecosystem, our climate or our atmosphere. We could suffer the consequences of its contamination, its radiation or its space junk. We might try to get their attention, ask for their help or demand justice, but without getting any response or consideration.
These are just some of the possible hypotheses about the scenario of an extraterrestrial conquest, which could vary according to the degree of intelligence, technology and morality of the visitors. In any case, it is a subject that raises fundamental questions about our own nature, our place in the universe and our destiny as a species.
How do you think the world would react to an alien contact? I know it is a difficult question to answer, there is no single way to react to an alien contact, but it would depend on many factors, such as the type of contact, the level of alien intelligence and technology, the degree of cooperation or conflict between humans and aliens, and cultural, religious, and political differences among countries and regions of the world.
Some scientists have attempted to study public attitudes toward possible alien contact, through surveys and experiments. The results suggest that most people would have a positive or curious reaction, and would be more willing to accept aliens if they resemble us or have peaceful intentions. However, there are also people who would fear, mistrust or reject visitors, especially if they perceive them as a threat to their identity, values or interests.
In addition, it must be taken into account that alien contact could generate a series of social, political, economic and ethical challenges. For example, how would humanity communicate with aliens? What kind of information would be shared or hidden? What rights would aliens and humans have? What impact would contact have on science, religion, culture, and the environment? How would possible conflicts or alliances between the different parties be resolved? Are we prepared to face contact with an alien civilization? What can we do to avoid a possible invasion or to defend our sovereignty? What can we learn from our own history of conquest and colonization? These are some of the questions we should ask ourselves before it's too late.
