August 6, 1945 - World War II: An American B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb called "Little Boy" on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. 80,000 people died on the spot, and another 60,000 died from the effects of radiation by the end of the year. It is assumed that the bomb killed a total of 200,000 people
