JPMorgan says Tether's increasing dominance is negative for crypto

"Tether is mostly at risk given its lack of regulatory compliance and transparency," JPMorgan analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou wrote in a report on Thursday. "We therefore view the increasing concentration in Tether over the past year as a negative for the stablecoin universe and the crypto ecosystem more broadly."

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino told The Block. "I'm happy to read that JPMorgan acknowledges the importance of Tether and the stablecoin technology created by our company, but it seems to me a bit hypocritical the talk about concentration coming from JPMorgan, the biggest bank in the world."

"The success of Tether USDT is driven by its financial reliability, strong reserves and its commitment towards emerging markets and developing countries, in which entire communities are using USDT as a lifeline to defend their families from high inflation and the devaluation of their national currency," Ardoino added.

The Grayscale ETF #GBTC had a net outflow of $144 million in one day. The remaining nine ETFs, excluding Grayscale, had total net inflows of $224 million. BlackRock ETF IBIT had net inflows of $105 million in one day.

📈 Solana registers all-time high in monthly new addresses for January

There was significant increase in the number of new addresses on the Solana blockchain during the month of January, according to The Block’s data dashboard.

The monthly count of new addresses on Solana increased to 11.81 million for January. This gain represents an 18% rise in new addresses on the network from December’s count of about 10 million — which was a multi-month high at the time.

The last all-time high of unique new addresses to transact on the Solana network was in May 2022, with a count of 11.72 million.

CoinDCX CEO Expects A Cut In India’s Crypto Tax Rate After 2024 Elections

Sumit Gupta, CEO and Co-Founder of CoinDCX, a prominent Indian crypto exchange, recently expressed optimism for crypto tax reform in India. Despite no immediate relief in the Interim Budget for high TDS and crypto tax rates, Gupta remains hopeful for positive changes in the final budget after the elections.

In a recent post on X, Gupta highlighted the challenges posed by the current crypto tax rate of 30% and 1% TDS. He added the #ReduceCryptoTax to his post to keep the trend alive. ✅ Solana network restarts after outage that lasted five hours

The Layer 1 network Solana has restarted after going dark around five hours earlier.

"Block production on Solana mainnet beta resumed at 14:57 UTC (9:47 a.m. ET), following a successful upgrade to v1.17.20 and a restart of the cluster by validator operators. Engineers will continue to monitor performance as network operations are restored," the network wrote in an incident report.

"The outage began at approximately 09:53 UTC, lasting 5 hours. Core contributors are working on a root cause report, which will be made available once complete," the report continued.

Matthew Sigel, Head of digital assets research at VanEck, wrote on X that the "Berkley Packet Filter” mechanism to deploy upgrade and execute programs on Solana seemed to be responsible for the failure.
