Shane

As he gets ready to go, he eyes me for a bit. Shane has been acting strangely all morning. 

I've tried to convince myself that his severe hangover is the source of the weird behavior. 

In my haste to get him ready this morning for his departure, I fear that he may have concluded that I am concealing something. 
He has been giving me stealthy glances all morning as if he is searching for my secrets. 

He says abruptly, "What are your plans for the weekend?" 

I grimace, there is a heavy silence in the room as I fold his last piece of clothing." 

"I'm going to the store to get groceries and a few other things," I murmur.

He stares at me quizzically. 

He knows I'm going to run, my heart is racing unreasonably because he will murder me before I do it.


I attempt to fake a smile as he approaches me menacingly because he now knows that I know that this is goodbye . 
I close my eyes and anticipate the pain.
