Tonight, the 2024 Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the ceremony honored the year’s best productions and performances in television. Typically held in September, the 2023 Emmys were postponed until this evening due to the Hollywood strikes, so many of the nominees this evening reflected some of the buzziest shows of 2023—including programs such as BeefDaisy Jones & the SixThe Last of Us, and Succession. On the red carpet before the ceremony, however, A-list stars made sure their fashion felt right for this moment. In fact, the best dressed stars of the evening were those who gave classic suits and gowns an unexpected, contemporary twist.
The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, for one, slipped into a custom Louis Vuitton dress that served as a modern take on the LBD; the bell-shaped black mini dress was constructed from sleek leather panels. Other stars opted for more color—like The White Lotus’s Simona Tabasco, who turned heads in an eye-popping Marni frock that was covered in collaged graphic florals. Wednesday star Jenna Ortega also kept in line with the garden theme: her strapless, netted Dior Couture gown was covered in pretty pastel blossom appliqués.
Some of the most dapper men of the night, meanwhile, embraced tailoring in fresh ways. Colman Domingo—one of the best-dressed gentlemen of awards season—donned a custom Louis Vuitton suit with an elongated jacket and intricate brooch. Donald Glover looked to Bode for a soft black suit that was accentuated with romantic metallic embroidery and ballet flats.
