Asia is the largest continent on earth. Its primary location is in the eastern and northern hemispheres. It has an area of 44,579,000 square kilometres (17,212,000 sq mi) with 4.5 billion people as the report of June 2019 which is roughly 60% of the world's population. So, it is the largest content with a large population in the world. This continent is bounded by The Pacific Ocean in the east, the Indian Ocean in the south, and The Arctic Ocean in the north. Besides, It shares landmarks with two continents Europe and Africa; the continental landmark of Eurasia with Europe, and of Afro-Eurasia with both Europe and Africa.

Asia; Origin of religions


The five most practised religions in the world have their origin here. The Five religions are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Chinese folk religion, and Buddhism. Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism are the main religion of Asia. Asia has over 500 million Buddhists. The centrality of Buddhism can be found in Europe, especially in South and East Asia. It's fascinating that the entire Thai population, for instance, is comprised of 95% Buddhists. By the way, there are more Hindus and Muslims than Buddhists on the Asian continent. Therefore Buddhism does not count as the most followed belief system on the continent. Besides, the Christian faith and Judaism are also practised by a small population on this continent.

 The median age in Asia is 32.0 years. The maximum median age in Asia among its country is of Japan which is 48. 7 years. Consequently, Japan is ranked second in the world by the median age of the country. Besides, it is in the first position in Asia in the same category.

People of Asia


Asia is not only diverse in climate but also in ethnic groups with identical cultures and languages. Imagine that people of different ethnic groups living here use nearly 2,300 languages. The most spoken languages are Chinese ( more than 1.39 billion people speak it in china), and Hindu- Urdu language(used in India and Pakistan; more than 588 people speak it). Besides, India and China are the most populous country in Asia.

The climate ranges from very cold to hot


Asia has a very diverse climate. It ranges from the arctic climate in Siberia to tropical climates in South-East Asia. Siberia, located in Russia is also one of the coldest places on the earth.

The highest and lowest points on earth


Asia houses both the highest and the lowest points on Earth. The highest peak in the world Mount Everest with a height of 8,848.86 m lies here. Also, It consists of the lower point below the sea level which is the Dead Sea, - 395m from the sea level.

Asia; Roof of earth


 Asia is the roof of the earth because the ten tallest mountain peaks around the world are located in Asia. Everyone knows about Mount Everest, which is the highest peak in the world. Similarly,  K2 is the second-highest, and Kangchenjunga is the third-highest peak in the world. If you do a little research, you'll find the next seven highest peaks in the world. And they're all located in Asia.

The biggest lake in Asia


The Caspian Sea, the biggest lake in Asia, has a depth of more than 1,000m or 3,3oo ft. So, it is first on the list of the deepest lake in the world. Its coastline is shared by five countries namely, Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Iran.

The driest place in Asia


The Gobi desert is the largest in the largest continent; of Asia. In addition, it stood in the 5th position in the largest desert in the world. This dessert is the cold desert. So, the temperature is very low.

Nomads build a yurt to line in and travel the Gobi desert. A yurt is a typical round tent covered with mats and fabric. To protect one from the extreme cold, they build it.

Landlocked countries


Altogether there are 12 landlocked countries in Asia. Among them, Bhutan, Laos, Nepal, and Mongolia are located in the interior of the continent and also do not have access to any ocean. The first landlocked country by the area in the world; Kazakhstan is located in Asia. And there comes Mongolia in the second position which also lies in Asia.

World largest flower

  • Rafflesia arnoldii, the flower with the world's largest bloom, is found in the rainforests of Indonesia; an Asian country. It is a rare flower. This flower can be 3 feet across and weigh up to 15 pounds. Besides, It is a parasitic plant, with no visible leaves, roots, or stems.


  • Amorphophallus titanium commonly known as The Titan arum has the largest unbranched inflorescence of all flowering plants. It is also a rear flower. This plant has heights of 7 to 12 feet and weighs as much as 170 pounds. They are also found in the rainforest of Indonesia.


Diverse inhabitants


There are some unique animal inhabitants of this continent. Some of them are rare in nature and only found in Asia. A few of them are listed here.

  • Sloth Bear is found in the Indian subcontinent. They feed on fruits, ants, and termites. Because of their long lower lips and palate used, they are also called "labiated bears". These parts are used for sucking up insects.


  •  Proboscis Monkey is found on the island of Borneo in Indonesia. It is an arboreal Old World monkey. Besides, it is the largest monkey species native to Asia. They are also famous for their unusually large nose, reddish-brown colour, and long tail.


  • Sun bears which are widely known as dog bears are found in Southeast Asia. they are the smallest of all the bear species in the world. they have an arboreal lifestyle among all bears. Besides, They are good climbers. Also, they are nocturnal. The world also noted them for their intelligence.


  • The angel of the sea; Dugong can be found in the warm Indian Ocean. It is a medium-sized marine mammal. Besides, the dugong is one of four living species of the order Sirenia (Sea-cows). Hence, it feeds on underwater grasses. So, it is herbivorous and peaceful.

Eight Asian countries belong to the British Commonwealth nations. They are not other than India, Singapore, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This is an association historically connected to the British Empire. Besides, It consists of fifty- four countries including The United Kingdom.

Asia has several of the world's tallest buildings. Many people believe that the Middle East is separate from the Asian continent. On the contrary, it's a part of Asia. Hence the world's tallest building the Burj Khalifa, which can be found in Dubai, is technically in Asia. There are so many other very tall buildings all over the continent. Some of these include the Abraj Al-Bait Clocktower, Taipei 101, the Shanghai Tower, Tokyo Skytree, and the Lotte World Tower, among many others.

Asia consumes 90% of the world's rice. Rice is a staple food in Asia and thus the majority of the rice produced is also consumed there. Also, Asian foods have their uniqueness. The ingredients used in the food add a twisted magic flavour to Asian foods.

 There are more billionaires all over Asia than in any other part of the world. Asia can now boast of having the most billionaires since the global economy has experienced a shift in recent years. There are more billionaires in China than in the United States. Although Asia indeed has the most billionaires, this does not negate the fact that numerous Asian populations are living in poverty. It may shock anyone to know that some live on less than a dollar a day.
