Why Hope is Vital
The majority of people link hope to a dire circumstance. People want to escape challenging situations. People frequently find themselves sincerely wishing at that point. But hope can also be the solution to improving daily living.
That's because, according to Psychology Today, just imagining a positive scenario—like the toddler seeing herself riding her new bike, for instance—can make someone happy in the moment. It can significantly ease the burden of the current challenges.
According to the American Psychology Association, one such instance is given. All of the poor children who went on to succeed in life shared a common trait: hope. According to Dr. Valerie Maholmes, who worked on the study, having hope entails "preparation, desire, and determination" to achieve one's goals.
The basic act of being a human being depends on hope. "Hope is a match in a dark tunnel, a moment of light, just enough to indicate the path ahead and ultimately the way out," writes Dr. Judith Rich.
