Haylie Katherine Duff, born on February 19, 1985, is an American actress and singer. She gained recognition for her roles as Sandy Jameson in the television series "7th Heaven," Amy Sanders in "Lizzie McGuire," and Summer Wheatley in "Napoleon Dynamite." In addition to her acting career, Duff is known for her passion for food and cooking. She is an avid food blogger and had her own cooking show titled "The Real Girl's Kitchen," which premiered in 2014. Duff is also known for being the older sister of actress and singer Hilary Duff.
Haylie Duff, the older sister of Hilary Duff, was born in Houston, Texas. Her mother, Susan Colleen Duff (née Cobb), is a film producer known for her work on movies like "A Cinderella Story" (2004), "The Perfect Man" (2005), and "Material Girls" (2006). Susan also managed Hilary's career. Haylie's father, Robert Erhard "Bob" Duff, is a partner and owner in a chain of convenience stores along with his father, John B. Duff. The family resides in Houston to oversee their business.
Haylie's journey into acting began as a result of her early dance training. She started ballet at a young age and landed a role in the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company's production of "The Nutcracker Suite" when she was just eight years old.
Haylie Duff's early career began with guest appearances on made-for-television films like "True Women" and on TV series such as "The Amanda Show." She also had guest-starring roles on shows like "Chicago Hope," "Boston Public," and "Third Watch." Duff became well-known starting in late 2002 for her role as Amy Sanders on "Lizzie McGuire." In 2004, she guest-starred on "That's So Raven" as Katina Jones and landed her first feature film role as Summer Wheatley in "Napoleon Dynamite," earning her first Teen Choice Award win.
Afterwards, she continued to make guest appearances on various shows such as "Joan of Arcadia" and "American Dreams." Duff also lent her voice to the Christmas animation film "In Search of Santa," which featured her sister Hilary. In 2005, she joined the cast of the television series "7th Heaven," playing Sandy Jameson.
In June 2006, Duff joined the Broadway cast of "Hairspray," portraying mean girl Amber Von Tussle, and left the role in early October 2006. She also starred in "Material Girls" with her sister Hilary, where she was credited as co-producer.
Following "Material Girls," Duff appeared in various made-for-television or straight-to-DVD films, including "Nightmare," "My Sexiest Year," "Legacy," "Backwoods," "Love Takes Wing," "Love Finds a Home," and "My Nanny's Secret."
Between 2008 and 2015, Duff appeared in various films and TV roles, including "Fear Island," "Tug," and "Slightly Single in L.A." Her project in 2015 was the film "Badge of Honor."
Haylie Duff has contributed to numerous soundtracks with her sister, recording singles for various Disneymania discs and appearing on soundtracks such as "In Search of Santa," "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," "A Cinderella Story," and "Material Girls." Duff has showcased her singing talent on various soundtracks, singing "A Whatever Life" for the "Stuck in the Suburbs" soundtrack, "Sweetest Pain" for the "Raising Helen" soundtrack, and "Babysitting Is a Bum Deal" on the album "Family Guy: Live in Las Vegas," where she dueted with Seth MacFarlane as his character Stewie.
Additionally, Duff has written and co-written several songs for her sister Hilary's albums, including "Metamorphosis" and her self-titled second album. She also contributed whistling to Hilary's song "Sparks" from her album "Breathe In. Breathe Out."
Duff signed with Hollywood Records with plans to release "Screwed" as her debut solo single in August 2004. However, when Paris Hilton also recorded a version for her debut album, a dispute arose over the rights to the song. Hilton's version was leaked onto radio airplay before the dispute could be resolved, leading Duff's team to decide not to pursue the case further.
In 2008, Duff's debut album, "Walk the Walk," was scheduled for release later that year. However, the album was never released, and Duff parted ways with Hollywood Records. Despite this, the song "Holiday" from the album was later re-recorded by Hilary Duff and released on her greatest hits album "Best of Hilary Duff."
