Importance Of Teamwork !
Amar was a group leader of a multi national company. While working, he suddenly felt that differences in his team were increasing. And everyone is busy humiliating each other. To deal with this he thought of a solution.
He called a meeting and told the team members –
A cycle race is being organized for all of you on Sunday. Please everyone gather at Ashok Nagar intersection at seven in the morning.
At the appointed time everyone gathered on their bicycles.
Amar called everyone one by one and told them their goal and asked them to be ready at the starting line. Within no time, the entire team was ready for the race, everyone was very excited and was thanking Amar for doing something different from the routine.
Amar blew the whistle and the race started.
Everyone wanted to win the race at any cost to impress the boss. As soon as the race started, there was chaos on the road… some were passing from the right and some from the left… many were not even shying away from knocking down others in the race to get ahead.
In this commotion, no one paid attention to Amar's instructions and started running like a sheep following the leading cyclist.
After five minutes, Amar again blew the whistle and ordered to end the race. Suddenly everyone remembered the instructions given before the race and started running here and there. But Amar stopped them and signaled them to come near him.
Everyone was standing in front of the boss with their faces hanging and blaming each other for not being able to complete the race.
Amar looked at his team smilingly and said-
"Hey, what happened? There were many champions in this team, but why could no one complete this unique cycle race?
Amar continued speaking – “Let me tell you what happened…Actually, none of you paid attention to your goal. If you all had focused only on your target then you all would have become winners, because every person's target was different. Everyone had to go to different streets. Everyone's goal was different. There was no competition among each other.
But you people only kept on humiliating each other, while you did not even understand your goal properly. This is exactly the environment our team has become. You all have that unique thing inside you, because of which the team needs you. But due to unhealthy mutual competition, neither the team nor you are able to develop. Your tomorrow is in your hands. We can either become each other's strength and take each other on the path of development or we can waste our and others' time in mutual competition.
My request to all of you is to work not as an individual but as a team… Remember that being a team-player is more important than being an individual performer.”
