ELVIS The Movie
I had the pleasure of watching Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis, over the weekend, but before I review the movie, I’d like to take a step back…
Although I visited Graceland - Elvis’s palatial manor in Memphis, Tennessee, I am not a massive fan of his.
He was a generation before me…
But I will acknowledge that he was a super star and many of his songs are timeless - and I definitely can appreciate the quality of his music.
So to the movie - this was an epic 3 hour long story from his managers perspective.
This manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played by a not very nice Tom Hanks (for a change - he always plays nice guys) copped a heap of criticism with many blaming him for Elvis’s premature death at a very young 42.
Baz Lurhmann’s adaptation was typically theatrical, exuberant and full of great songs. It flicked between real footage and that from the actors.
I definitely recommend the movie - especially on a wet and cold Saturday afternoon.
