Robert Kennedy Jr.'s Bitcoin gift to his kids and his crypto vision
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Democratic presidential candidate and environmental activist, has revealed that he bought 14 Bitcoin (BTC) for his seven children earlier this year. This is a significant investment in the worldβs leading cryptocurrency, which has been gaining popularity and adoption among various sectors of society.
Why did he buy Bitcoin?
Kennedy said he decided to buy Bitcoin after attending the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami in May, where he spoke about the potential of Bitcoin to empower people and challenge the status quo. He said he was impressed by the enthusiasm and vision of the Bitcoin community, and he wanted to support the innovation and freedom that Bitcoin represents.
He also said he faced a lot of criticism from the mainstream media and some crypto pundits, who accused him of promoting a volatile and risky asset without having any skin in the game. He said he wanted to put his money where his mouth is and show his confidence and commitment to Bitcoin.
He bought two Bitcoin for each of his six biological children, who are aged between 22 and 38, and one for his stepdaughter from his marriage to actress Cheryl Hines. He said he hopes that his children will appreciate the value and potential of Bitcoin, and that they will use it wisely and responsibly.
How much did he invest?
According to his financial disclosure report, Kennedy had between $100,001 and $250,000 worth of Bitcoin in a brokerage account as of June 30, 2023. However, if he bought 14 Bitcoin around the time of the conference, when the price was about $26,800 per coin, his total investment would have been about $375,000.

Since then, the price of Bitcoin has fluctuated between $29,000 and $31,000. As of July 29, the price of Bitcoin is $29,210, which means that Kennedyβs 14 Bitcoin are worth about $409,000. This is a gain of about 9% from his initial investment.
What are his views on Bitcoin?
Kennedy is one of the few presidential candidates who has openly expressed his support for Bitcoin and the crypto industry. He has said that he would back the U.S. dollar with Bitcoin and end capital gains taxes on crypto transactions if elected president. He has also said that he would appoint pro-crypto people to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and that he would accept campaign donations in Bitcoin.
He believes that Bitcoin is a revolutionary technology that can challenge the power and corruption of the central banks and the elites, and that it can provide financial inclusion and freedom to millions of people around the world. He has compared Bitcoin to the civil rights movement, saying that both are about fighting for justice and equality.
He has also praised the innovation and creativity of the crypto community, saying that they are building a new economy and a new culture based on decentralization and collaboration. He has said that he wants to learn from them and work with them to create a better future for everyone.
