Elizabeth Dean Lail, an American actress, has made a name for herself with various roles in television and film. She played the recurring character Anna in the fantasy adventure series "Once Upon a Time" in 2014 and starred as Amy Hughes in the supernatural series "Dead of Summer" in 2016. However, she gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Guinevere Beck in the psychological thriller series "You" from 2018 to 2019. Her performance in "You" garnered critical acclaim and increased her popularity among audiences.
Following her success in "You," Lail portrayed Jenny Banks in the NBC drama series "Ordinary Joe" from 2021 to 2022. She showcased her versatility as an actress through her portrayal of different characters in these diverse television series.
In addition to her television work, Lail ventured into the world of film, portraying Vanessa Shelly in the movie adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's," which was released in 2023. Elizabeth Dean Lail, born in Williamson County, Texas, and raised in Asheboro, North Carolina, developed an interest in acting at the age of 14. This passion was ignited after she played a small role in a community theater production of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." Following her high school graduation in 2010, she pursued her love for the performing arts by attending the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. In May 2014, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Drama, laying the foundation for her successful career in acting.
During her time at university from 2011 to 2014, Elizabeth Dean Lail primarily immersed herself in student short film productions such as "Model Airplane" and "Without." While pursuing opportunities in stage work in New York City, she unexpectedly landed an audition for ABC's "Once Upon a Time." This audition proved to be a pivotal moment in her career as she was cast as Anna in the fourth season of the series, which aired in 2014. Following this success, Lail secured a starring role in the 2016 Freeform horror series "Dead of Summer," portraying the character of camp counselor Amy.
In 2017, Elizabeth Dean Lail landed the role of Guinevere Beck in the Lifetime/Netflix television series "You," alongside Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell. The series, released in 2018, garnered her a nomination for Best Actress in Streaming Presentation at the 45th Saturn Awards. Lail reprised her role as Guinevere Beck in guest appearances on both the second and fourth seasons of "You." Additionally, she played the lead role in the 2019 horror film "Countdown."
In March 2021, Lail was cast as the title character Mack in the comedy film "Mack & Rita," opposite Diane Keaton. She also joined the cast of the HBO Max teen drama "Gossip Girl" in the recurring role of Lola Morgan. Furthermore, Lail was revealed to have joined the cast of the NBC drama series "Ordinary Joe."
Lail's upcoming projects include portraying Vanessa Shelly in the film adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's" (2023).
