Splinterlands | Bertrol Gobson | This Tiny Guy Gets Crazy Strong
Splinterlands | Life Leech Ability
I have seen enough and more monsters with the life-leech ability and I know what havoc they can wreak once a monster grows in stats. What happens in the life-leech ability? Every single time a monster with life-leech attacks an opponent and the opponent perishes, all stats of the attacking monster go up by one. That increase can become phenomenal if it gets too many opponents perishing.
So, why are we talking about the Life-Leech ability? Well, I underestimated it in one small guy, Bertrol Gobson. Most of the other monsters with life-leech have a high attack value and then increase from there, but that’s not the case with Gobson. I never even thought of using it until now.
How about we see Gobson in action? But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. ***The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.*** By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Bertrol Gobson | Who The Hell Is He?
Okay, here he is.
Yeah, that’s the guy. See the stats? That’s why I always ignored this card. But, boy, I took him out for one low-mana battle and my opinion changed for good.
You’ve got to notice that this is an opportunity card with life-leech ability. What do opportunity cards do? They attack smaller health cards and therefore the chance of destroying the opponent’s card is high. And what happens when the opponent’s card is destroyed? Yes, the life-leech ability kicks in and Bertrol Gobson grows in stats. I never realized that opportunity and life-leech together is one dangerous card for the opponent.
Let’s see Gobson in action, shall we?
The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows
A quick look at the rule, and let’s get on with the battle.
So, it’s a low mana battle that allows ranged attackers to battle in the first position. The other rule in play was the no-common-card. This rule was the main reason for me to choose Bertrol Gobson for battle because the regular one and zero mana cards were not available for the battle.
Boy-o-boy, was that a good thing or what!
The Face-Off Screen
We are at the edge of war. Here is what it looked like.
The opponent’s team is at the top of the screen while mine is at the bottom. My opponent has chosen Water Splinter and the summoner gives one additional magic attack to all magic cards.
I, on the other hand, chose the Earth Splinter and my summoner gives all my monsters the thorns ability. At the end of the lineup is where our hero for the day is stationed. Bertrol Gobson is guarding the rear of the lineup. 😊
We Battle Hard
By the end of round 2, Bertrol had already started to power up.
Bertrol took down the opponent’s tank and now was attacking the last card in the opponent’s lineup. The opponent’s card being a flying monster, there would be a good chance that Bertrol could miss a few attacks; or may not.
And The Battle Races to Conclusion
By the beginning of round 8 (yes, it went up to round 8), Bertrol was the strongest in my lineup.
See that? Betrol took down three more of the opponent’s monsters and here it was all powered up. Notice that I have my tank with a speed of 4 and an attack value of 3 and it looks puny in front of Bertrol Gobson.
This is where the life-leech ability transforms Bertrol from a humble card to a raging monster. You can’t escape it. And that was learning for me.
Anyway, I won soon after this.
A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result
Well, it was a hard battle until Bertrol came into its elements. Thereafter, it was a breeze. What a find the card was for me and I intend to use it for many more battles and destroy the opposition.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the same. Do take a look at the battle live in the link provided below. Enjoy!
Namaste!
