Fableborne Mobile ARPG Review: Airdrop, $POWER & Gameplay Impressions
To be honest, I wanted to give up on this title right from the start. You know, I’m not particularly fond of mobile games - phones heat up, need constant charging, hands get sweaty… However, development and my preferences don’t always align, and the mobile gaming market is evolving at an astonishing pace!
Coming back to Fableborne, I didn’t want to try it, but once I launched the game on my iPhone, I regretted not wanting to...
A fabled past of Fableborne
Let’s start from the beginning. The origins of Fableborne date back to the times when dragons still kidnapped princesses, and kings had gray beards... that is, the year 2021. In this year Pixion Games, the studio behind Fableborne, began promoting its vision for Web3 gaming.
“Our goal is to build a competitive gaming ecosystem where players aren’t just consumers but participants in the game's growth” - Kam Punia, founder and CEO of Pixion Games.
The game had its moments throughout the past year, especially with the occasional playtests in which we, the players, could participate. However, it was only this month that unexpected news about the game emerged, making Fableborne a recognizable title in the world of Web3 gaming. On November 13, the world was buzzing with the news that Fableborne would be joining the Ronin ecosystem - a recognized and leading blockchain ecosystem for games. Shortly after, the creators announced a massive airdrop campaign, marking the launch of Season 3, where players could grab, among other things, 5 MILLION "gold essences", which could be exchanged for the $POWER token (I will dedicate one paragraph to this). At the exact same moment, the game won the award for Best Mobile Game of the Year 2024 at the prestigious GAM3 Awards, organized by Gam3s.gg and its partners. These announcements, delivered all at once, made it impossible to ignore Fableborne.
Fabled gameplay
Let’s move on to the game itself. The gameplay is beginner-friendly and engaging for veterans. Fableborne combines action RPG elements with kingdom-building strategy. The game focuses on creating and managing your own kingdom, where heroes play a key role. Players can conduct raids, controlling their heroes and defending their kingdom from other players. With each victory, they can upgrade their units and heroes for better defense and more effective attacks.
You can fight in both PvE mode, facing AI challenges, and PvP mode, competing against other players. The game also allows for strategy development and hero selection based on battlefield situations.
RPG elements allow deep character customization, while the strategic aspect requires thinking about the long-term development of your kingdom. This combination of action and strategy makes Fableborne an engaging game that evolves with the player's progress.
"The core loop each player will experience in Fableborne:
- Raid rival player Kingdoms in PvP Leagues.
- Extract bountiful loot to grow your power.
- Upgrade your Heroes and equipment to raid stronger Kingdoms.
- Let your Kingdom earn by managing your defence and winning rewards.
- Optimise your Kingdom's layout, units and production to defeat even the strongest raiders.
- A strong Kingdom plays a key role in your PvP League victories.
- Feel your power grow with each League's reward drop."
- We can read in the game whitepaper.
Season 3 - play to airdrop $POWER (guide)
Let's talk about the ongoing season with the airdrop, because there’s a lot to discuss! The most important part of this airdrop is the $POWER token, and it’s exactly what players are competing for. The $POWER token is the primary in-game currency in Fableborne's Web3 ecosystem. It is earned by acquiring different types of Essence, such as Gold and Primordial Essence, which players gain through events, NFTs, and leaderboard rankings.
Here are the details:
-Primordial Essence:
- Rewarded for holding Fableborne Primordial NFTs.
- Primordial Essence rewards are in direct proportion with NFTs held.
-Gold Essence:
- Rewarded by competing in Fableborne Seasons.
- Top leaderboard ranks receive largest Gold Essence rewards.
- Top 10,000 players per Fableborne live event are eligible to win Gold Essence.
- Each leaderboard rank in-game showcases its Gold Essence reward.
-Bronze Essence:
- Earned by completing social quests (like joining Discord or following us on Twitter) here
We also had Silver Essence, but it could only be obtained during Season 1, so I won’t elaborate on it.
In this season, the Kingdom Defense mode was finally revealed, whereas previously, during tests, we could only fight against the computer. The developers also introduced the Fortune Pass. This is an exclusive reward system where players can purchase the pass to gain access to special rewards, including Fortune Keys, which unlock chests containing valuable items such as Gold Essence, $POWER tokens, and NFTs. The pass giving players more chances to earn rare rewards. Pass costs 10 $RON and You can purchase it in the Mavis Store.
I’m not encouraging you to do this; I myself try not to make foolish choices during airdrops. I saw a video where a guy opened 27 chests at once and didn’t get a single NFT, only about 60 Gold Essence and less than 10 $RON.
Alright, during this season, we have several types of competitions (one of which, as I'm writing this article, has just ended).
November 21st 10AM UTC — 28th 10AM UTC: 7-Day PvP Event — Kingdom Conquest
Prize Pool: 2,500,000 Gold Essence
Gold Essence Claim for this event begins 12/2 at 5PM UTC
November 28th 11AM UTC — December 2nd 11AM UTC: 4-Day Siege Survival Event
Prize Pool: 2,500,000 Gold Essence
Gold Essence Claim for this event begins 12/5 at 5PM UTC
December 2nd 1PM UTC — 5th 1PM UTC: 3-Day ENDGAME PvP Event
December 5th — 8th: 3-Day Campaign
December 8th 5PM UTC: Servers Close for Season 3
We will only find out what these competitions will look like after they start.
A few more words about the token we’re fighting for. The $POWER token is the main currency of Fableborne and all future Pixion Games titles. It acts as the ecosystem currency and is crucial for the Power Protocol, a platform for web3 gaming operations. The token is used for in-game purchases, with a focus on offering players maximum value. It also serves as a gas token for the commercialization of the Power Protocol, providing a foundation for live operations and future game development within the ecosystem. You know what this mean? We're fighting for a token that will be part of the entire ecosystem of future games by the developer Pixion Games, not just one title.
Fabled summary
In conclusion, I want to highlight that it's been a long time since I participated in such an enjoyable airdrop campaign. Really! In the Kingdom Defense event that just ended, after playing for about 2 hours, I ranked in the middle of the leaderboard and earned 200+ Gold Essences! I have no idea how much this will be worth, but I liked the way the points were earned. We had a stamina pool that regenerated slowly, and only when we had stamina could we earn points. This meant we didn't need to stay glued to the screen all day, just check in occasionally. The gameplay itself is enjoyable, smooth, and challenging. I'm also happy that the game chose the Ronin ecosystem, as I believe Ronin has become one of the best 'homes' for games (it won the Best Ecosystem award at the GAM3 Awards). All this together made me glad that, despite hesitating to dive into the world of Fableborne, I'm happy I visited it in the end.
UPDATE: Second event is an arena where we fight against waves of enemies. The one who reaches the furthest wave and does it the fastest will receive a higher position on the leaderboard.
