🚨🚨CRYPTO BREAKING NEWS! (23/12/23) 🚨🚨
1️⃣ Ethereum’s Next Big Upgrade, ‘Dencun’, Set for January Testnet Launch 📅
Ethereum developers announced on Thursday that they are aiming for Jan. 17 to deploy Ethereum’s upcoming upgrade “Cancun-Deneb” (also known as “Dencun”) on the Goerli testnet. The upgrade will introduce “proto-danksharding”, which will significantly lower the fees for layer 2 rollups and increase the scalability of the blockchain by expanding the space for “blobs” of data.
The upgrade will first be tested on the Goerli testnet, followed by Sepolia on Jan. 30 and Holesky on Feb. 7. The Ethereum team has not yet revealed when Dencun will go live on the mainnet.
Tim Beiko, the protocol support lead at the Ethereum Foundation, said on the call,
Obviously, if we find a major issue or something crazy before then we can always cancel. This would mean ideally we’re putting out the blog post for the fork sometime during the week of January 8th, so people have at least a week to update.

2️⃣ Argentina’s New Crypto-Friendly Government Recognizes Bitcoin as Currency for Contracts 🤩
Argentina’s newly elected President Javier Milei, who is known for his pro-crypto stance, has “ratified” and “confirmed” that Bitcoin and “any other kind of crypto” can be used as currency in official contracts. The news was shared on Twitter by Argentina’s minister of foreign relations and international commerce, Diana Modino. She referred to an existing law that allowed debtors to pay in currencies that are not legal tender in Argentina. The confirmation and ratification now explicitly acknowledge Bitcoin and other cryptos as a form of currency, although they are not legal tender in the country yet.

3️⃣ Circle, Coinbase Get Green Light from French Regulators 🚀
Both, crypto exchange Coinbase and stablecoin issuer Circle received approvals and were granted licenses by the French regulatory authorities on Dec. 21. Coinbase received approval as a Virtual Assets Service Provider (VASP), while Circle received a conditional registration as a Digital Asset Service Provider. With the VASP license, Coinbase can offer and facilitate crypto trading and custody digital assets in the country. However, Circle still needs to get approval as a Payment Services Provider to operate legally in France. The stablecoin issuer has already applied for the relevant licenses and is awaiting approval.
