Digital Rupee e₹ - India's CBDC Digital Currency Explained
CBDC is going to dominate the world after year 2025. CBDC is basically an alternative to the cash. Unlike crypto CBDC are going to be legal tender of the govt. That means if you lose in crypto you can't ask for help from govt. However if you have issues with cash or CBDC you can always reach out to them and get your money sorted. So considering India was kind of taking cautious approach on crypto, they decided to push for the CBDC not out of crypto fear but more of making their own economy strong through digitalization.
Digital Rupee wallets are out there and being deployed in the app form. Currently it is in pilot form for most of the initial wave of users. But soon banks would be adding this as a feature in their banking apps too.
Does the Digital Rupee going to replace crypto?
No. Digital rupee is just digital form of cash. So it is more in competition with itself in a cash paper form.
How does it work?
Basically the send and collect options are self explanatory. But apart from that there is also UPI support for the digital rupee. Which means you scan and then push for the transfer of funds. Also you would notice that the loading option which means you can connect to the banks and then add the funds like you used to do with the UPI Wallets.
All the features and the security that you have experienced with the UPI is going to be there. Also you would find that Digital Rupee is not going to track the footprint on the govt level. Which is a widespread lie spread by the degens in crypto to defame the govt. However do note that the tracking that is likely to happen would be the apps that allow you to transfer funds. So that means the companies and banks owning the transfer apps would be tracking, which is not same as the govt.
How do you use digital rupee? Just like you use your UPI apps in the bank or through apps like Paytm, phonepe and others. You continue to build through those things just by doing the transactions. Considering UPI is already widespread, even a small tea vendor is doing the work through the UPI QR code and he is getting paid. So yes, you don't have to worry about where the digital rupee is going to be accepted. It's everywhere in India!
