Claire Antonia Forlani, born in December 1971, is an English actress who gained prominence in the mid-1990s with her leading roles in various films. She starred in the comedy film Mallrats and portrayed a character in the 1996 biopic Basquiat, centered around the life of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Her breakthrough came in 1998 with her role in the fantasy romance film Meet Joe Black.
Throughout her career, Forlani has appeared in a range of notable films, including Mystery Men (1999), Boys and Girls (2000), Antitrust (2001), The Medallion (2003), and In the Name of the King (2007). She has also been featured in numerous TV films and series, such as the historical-fantasy-drama series Camelot. Forlani has had recurring roles on several CBS action series, including CSI: NY, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Hawaii Five-0.
In addition to her work in television and film, Forlani portrayed the character Meredith Newman in the 2019 film Five Feet Apart.
Claire Antonia Forlani was born in Twickenham, London, to Barbara (née Dickinson), who was English, and Pier Luigi Forlani, a music manager from Ferrara, Italy. At the age of 11, Forlani enrolled in the Arts Educational School in London, where she began studying acting. During her six years at the school, she also pursued ballet, which eventually led to her performing on stage in productions such as The Nutcracker and Orpheus in the Underworld.
Forlani's parents relocated to San Francisco in 1993, seeking broader opportunities for her in Hollywood films. As a result, she landed roles in the television mini-series JFK: Reckless Youth and the film Police Academy: Mission to Moscow. Her breakthrough came in 1995 when she portrayed Brandi Svenning in Mallrats. The following year, she appeared in a supporting role as Sean Connery's daughter in the film The Rock.
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Forlani continued to appear in various films, including Basquiat, directed by Julian Schnabel, and the star-studded Meet Joe Black alongside Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. In 1999, she starred in Mystery Men alongside Ben Stiller and Geoffrey Rush. In 2001, she appeared opposite Ryan Phillippe and Tim Robbins in the thriller Antitrust.
Forlani's career also extended into modeling, as she became the new face of L'Oréal in 2001. Her beauty and talent garnered attention, leading to rankings in publications such as Stuff magazine's "100 Sexiest Women" and FHM magazine's "100 Sexiest Women," as well as being listed as one of the "Hot 100 Babes" in Loaded magazine.
In 2003, Forlani co-starred with Jackie Chan in The Medallion. Two years later, she appeared in Green Street Hooligans alongside Charlie Hunnam and Elijah Wood. In Hallam Foe (2007), she starred alongside Jamie Bell and Ciarán Hinds.
Her television work included joining the cast of CSI: NY in 2006, where she played the recurring role of medical examiner Dr. Peyton Driscoll. In February 2007, she portrayed Tori Bodeen in the film adaptation of Nora Roberts's best-selling book Carolina Moon.
In 2008, she starred opposite Daniel Craig in Flashbacks of a Fool. Her role in the TV series Camelot came in 2011, where she played Queen Igraine.
Forlani also made notable television appearances, including portraying Agent Lauren Hunter in NCIS: Los Angeles in 2010. She temporarily replaced Henrietta Lange (Linda Hunt) as the operations director at NCIS for the end of season 2 and later appeared in season 3's finale. In 2016, she appeared in the second episode of season seven of Hawaii Five-0 as Alicia Brown, a retired criminal profiler.
