CZ calls on Elon Musk to ban bots on X
CZ calls on Elon Musk to ban automated bots on X to protect crypto users from spam, fakes and scams.
CZ's suggestion
Changpeng Zhao (CZ), co-founder of Binance, recently called on Elon Musk to ban automated bots on social network X. This is a problem that has been going on for many years, especially seriously affecting the crypto community when users are constantly facing fake accounts, spam and fraudulent links.
In the article on March 9, CZ emphasized that if someone uses AI chatbots like Grok, ChatGPT or DeepSeek to create content and post it themselves, there is no problem. However, he believes that automated posting via API should be disabled to control abuse from bots.
In another comment, the former Binance CEO differentiated automated bots from AI Agents, arguing that artificial intelligence agents are very useful, they can help book hotels, buy tickets, or write code without social interaction.
Automated bots have long been a problem on X, especially in the crypto space. They not only spam content but also impersonate KOLs and industry leaders to promote scam tokens, luring users to phishing websites to steal assets. Common tricks include scam messages, advertising fake projects, or manipulating prices through "pump-dump" tactics.
In addition, AI chatbots are also exploited for emotional fraud. Bad guys often pretend to establish an online love relationship with victims for a long time, build trust, and then ask for money transfers by pretending to have financial difficulties or inviting investments in fraudulent schemes.
According to a 2023 study from the Network Contagion Institute, bots are also used to manipulate altcoin prices. They make coordinated series of posts to artificially inflate prices, create a sense of FOMO, and entice investors to buy.
Elon Musk and anti-bot solutions
Musk has complained in the past that 20% to 90% of accounts on X are fake, and even used this as an excuse to consider pulling out of the acquisition in 2022. Although Musk later completed the deal and implemented some measures such as paid accounts to limit bots, the problem is still "as bad as it is" and has not been completely resolved.
This is not the first time CZ has spoken out about account management on X. Last year, he expressed his wish for X to better control fake accounts. CZ warned users to only trust the official account @cz_binance and called on X to purge fraudulent accounts.
CZ’s latest proposal once again highlights the urgency of tightening anti-bot measures on X. Without strong action, crypto users will continue to be targets of increasingly sophisticated scams on the platform.
