I have never once written a blog before so please be kind. I want to share a mindfulness technique with the bulb community since I teach mindfulness techniques to my clients.

Mindfulness can be described as being grounded in the present moment. Mindfulness has many positive effects for the mind and body. It can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It can also improve concentration. Like any skill, becoming more mindful takes practice. To help you learn how to use mindfulness in your everyday life I have included a mindfulness exercise below for you to practice.

One way to practice mindfulness is through a technique known as RAIN. To prepare for this it is important to sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Once you are comfortable close your eyes then take three slow and deep breaths. After that proceed through the following steps lingering for a couple minutes on each step.

R stands for recognize
In this first step you want to let yourself feel at ease in the present moment. Slowly take in your surroundings. Recognize your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations.

A stands for allow
During this second step you want to observe your experience as if you are watching it in third person. Allow your thoughts, feelings and sensations come and go as they are. Let go of any judgment.

I stands for investigate
During this third step investigate what is going through your mind. What emotions are you feeling and where are they coming from. How are these feelings experienced in your body? Sense the most vulnerable part of yourself and reflect on what it needs such as acceptance, forgiveness or belonging.

N stands for nurture
Be kind toward your experience. Give yourself a comforting message such as “you are okay”. Then think of a friend, family member pet, spiritual figure and imagine their love flowing to you. Let in healing and compassion until you feel calm and centered.

I hope you enjoyed learning about Rain. I work with clients and teach them how to incorporate mindfulness into their every day lives. If you like this blog I will post more like it. Once again please do not be too harsh. I have never written a blog until today. Thank you for reading it.
