What Generation Do You Belong To? The 7 Kinds Of Generations.
There are seven living generations currently; The Greatest Generation, the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y or Millennials, Generation Z, and Generation Alpha.
The Greatest Generation
The Greatest Generation comprises those born between 1901 and 1924. These individuals lived through the Great Depression and World War II as adults. They were raised without modern conveniences such as air conditioning, radio, electricity, or televisions.
The Silent Generation
These individuals were born between 1924 and 1945, and it makes a lot of sense why they are called silent. After World War II, they brought us happiness with jazz, swing dancing, great films, and even Mickey Mouse himself.
The name "Silent" derives from the proverb that children born in this era were not intended to be "heard." They were quiet and diligent. This generation produced influential leaders and artists such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
Baby Boomers
The term "Baby Boomers" refers to the large number of births that occurred when World War II ended in 1945 and soldiers returned home. This generation was born into freedom and exemplified it through their decisions.
This generation used drugs, lived the hippy lifestyle, and dropped out of school to pursue their passions. This generation is the first to have two-income households. Additionally, divorce became common.
Generation X
They were born between 1965 and 1980, street-savvy lone rangers with divorced or career-focused parents—our cherished entrepreneurs who aspired to something greater than they possessed. With the introduction of music videos and various new music genres, including heavy metal, punk, grunge, and hip-hop, this generation was exposed to limitless opportunities. This generation is the first to truly live above their means.
Generation Y/ Millennials
Some refer to them as the "Peter Pan" generation because they refuse to grow up. Generation Y and the Millennials were born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s. This generation is technologically savvy and sales-savvy.
The Internet was one of the most significant changes during the Millennial generation's formative years. Many had unrestricted access to information, which heavily influenced their behavior. As consumers, they had on-demand access to options. For instance, they were mere seconds away from price comparisons, product information, and marketing strategies. These digital natives were never required to travel to feel connected. They are the Internet generation.
Generation Z
This generation was born after 1995 and has never known a world without the Internet, cell phones, and computers. They grew up with technology seamlessly integrated into their daily lives. They are more discerning consumers but easier to influence with marketing. This generation is technologically dependent.
Alpha Generation
What occurs when a Millennial has a child? This child is then referred to as an "Alpha." Born between 2010 and 2025, Generation Alpha is, without a doubt, the most tech-savvy generation. This is the first generation entirely born in the twenty-first century.
