What is Stoicism?

Stoicism is a philosophy that originated in ancient Greece. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining tranquility in the face of external circumstances, regardless of context.
Stoics believe that one should focus on what is within their control and accept what is not. This mindset can be incredibly beneficial for psychosocial wellbeing.

Example: Yourself or a loved one are waiting on a cancer screening the doctor had recommended. The results won’t be in for 3 days. Most of us in this situation would default to spending those 3 days juggling all the possibilities, on edge and anxious with nothing but that on your mind.

Taking a Stoic approach would mean accepting there’s nothing you can do to speed up or change the results, and that fretting about it nothing but a waste of your time & energy. You would effectively adopt almost a mantra-style coping mechanism, by accepting that - ‘it is what it is, and while it’s unfortunate, I have zero control over how this plays out ultimately. And I have to be okay with that.’

Stoic Principles, needed now more than ever.

In today's fast-paced world filled with general nonsense, consciously practicing stoic principles absolutely help navigate the daily stressors life brings. Incorporating this practice into your general outlook will almost guarantee developing emotional resilience.

Instead of getting caught up in negative emotions or worrying about things beyond our control, we can choose to focus on our own thoughts and actions.

Stoicism also encourages one to embrace challenges and view them as opportunities for growth. Myself for example; Once i began accepting the outcomes or secondary effects that would typically send me into a spiral, I actually even try looking for a hidden lesson when these kinds of events happen now. The paradox is the harder life comes swinging for you, the easier stoics ultimately approach life with a sense of calm and determination.

Stoicism alone I can’t vouch for as being the ultimate path to a life of nonstop ecstasy, but I will say it’s a critical component in how I’ve managed to get by and become the person I am today - helping me make lemonade out of lemons if that makes sense!

Moving forward my posts will be likely around 65% philosophical/psychological methods to help address & hopefully improve oneself. And 35% finance related as opposed to the 100% I had it geared towards initially. Trust me when I say, the content is going to be so much more interesting and applicable as I take this route.
